Fine little product, January 27, 2011 By Technically Proficient (Florida) - See all my reviews This review is from: Philips PET749/37 7- Inch Portable Digital LCD DTV and DVD Player with 180- Degrees swivel screen, Black (Electronics) Great value for the dollar. Sam's sells it for under $100. I bought it mainly for the DC operation. I can connect it to a 12v battery in the event of a power outage. In Pensacola, FL we worry about hurricanes and the concomitant power outages. Previously, I used an AC/DC tv that draws a couple of hundred watts of power and that is quite a drain on the 12 volt trolling motor battery that I use as a power source. I was pleasantly surprised at the large number of air-wave stations that it captured. The DVD produces a very acceptable picture. I plan on giving one of these units to each of our four older grandchildren.
Additional information: NUTS!! As of June 15, 2001, the unit is defective! The power switch is non functional and the power stays ON all the time. So, the unit must be kept plugged in at all times. Phillips rapidly sent a warranty replacement; however, it was a battle speaking with the service representative due to a language barrier. I speak decent English; what... Read more

Bad customer service, June 20, 2011 This review is from: Philips PET749/37 7- Inch Portable Digital LCD DTV and DVD Player with 180- Degrees swivel screen, Black (Electronics) I ordered a new Philips PET749. It came with a blue line running through the screen. I contacted Philips who sent me the PET729 (lesser model) as a replacement. When I called them and explained that this would not work for what I needed it for. Customer service stated, that was too bad. Even though they still make the PET749 they would only replace it with a PET729 or a refund minus my shipping. So I sent the PET729 back, was out $10 shipping, and waited two weeks for a refund. I refuse to purchase any Philips products since this poor customer service experience.

Love My Little DVD/DTV Player, June 16, 2011 By This review is from: Philips PET749/37 7- Inch Portable Digital LCD DTV and DVD Player with 180- Degrees swivel screen, Black (Electronics) I wanted a small DVD player and was delighted to find this one yesterday for just under $80 at Sam's Club. I live 45-50 miles from the nearest TV station, so I was delighted to find all but one of the channels I get on my big TV. The tiny little antenna works surprisingly well and the picture quality is very good. I watched a DVD this morning, and that worked well, too.
The following accessories were included in the package: car adapter, AV cables to hook DVD player to large TV, AC/DC adapter/charger, antenna, and an adapter for attaching to cable TV.
This little entertainer will definitely be traveling with me.
